Littleton, Colorado doesn't usually show up in national "hottest places to move" lists. It's not a ski town, it's not brand new, and it's never marketed itself as a destination — it's just a genuinely good place to live in the Denver southwest metro. Which is exactly why it caught our attention when moveBuddha's 2025 migration report, which tracks real-time moving-cost searches from across the country, named Littleton one of the country's breakout "micro-destinations" — small and mid-sized cities where mover interest jumped more than 10% in a single year, even though Colorado as a whole didn't crack the national top 10.

What Actually Caught the Country's Attention

The report's own description of what's drawing people to towns like Littleton is worth quoting directly: places that offer "big-city amenities nearby, with small downtowns and indie shops where breweries and small(er) town vibes reign." That's about as accurate a two-sentence summary of downtown Littleton as an outsider could write. Main Street's mix of local restaurants, breweries, and independent shops, combined with easy light-rail and highway access into Denver, is exactly the combination more and more relocating buyers are searching for — proximity without the density, and a real Main Street without a two-hour drive to reach it.

Littleton by the Numbers

Littleton falls within Jefferson, Arapahoe, and Douglas Counties depending on the neighborhood, which is part of what makes it interesting from a migration standpoint. IRS data shows Jefferson County's overall population exchange with the rest of the metro running close to even — but with real movement underneath: a strong net gain from Denver County, as people trade city living for the suburbs, and a net loss to Douglas County, largely tied to newer construction further south. Littleton sits right in the middle of that shift geographically, which likely explains part of its current pull: it offers an established, walkable alternative to both.

What It's Actually Like to Live Here

Historic downtown Littleton is the heart of it — a genuine Main Street with locally owned restaurants and shops, a farmers market in season, and enough foot traffic that it feels lived-in rather than staged for tourists. The light-rail stop downtown puts Denver within easy reach without requiring a daily highway commute, which is a real draw for buyers coming from more car-dependent parts of the country.

Neighborhoods here range from older, tree-lined streets close to downtown to newer developments further south and west, with a good mix of price points compared to some of Denver's closer-in neighborhoods. Littleton Public Schools consistently draws families specifically for the district, and the South Platte River trail system gives you a genuine outdoor recreation option without leaving city limits — walking, biking, and fishing access most suburban communities can't match.

How Littleton Compares to the Rest of the Foothills

We work across the whole west metro, and Littleton fills a specific niche in that lineup. If you want acreage, privacy, and true mountain scenery, Evergreen or Conifer are still the better fit. If you want a walkable small-city feel with a shorter commute to downtown Denver and a real Main Street, Littleton is hard to beat — and now, apparently, the rest of the country is starting to notice too.

Considering Littleton for Your Own Move?

Whether you're relocating from out of state or moving across the metro from Denver or Douglas County, we can walk you through Littleton's specific neighborhoods, current inventory, and how it stacks up against the other communities we work in. Being named to a national list is one thing — knowing which block, which school boundary, and which price point actually fits your situation is another, and that's the part we're here for.
